The Nigerian-born curator, critic, editor, and exhibition organizer is recognized for his advocacy of African artists and a more global outlook in the visual arts. Enwezor was director of the critically acclaimed Documenta 11 in 2002, curator of the 7th Gwangju Biennial in Korea in 2008, and curator of the 2012 Paris Triennale. He is currently the director of the Haus der Kunst in Munich, Germany. Previous appointments have included adjunct curator of the International Center of Photography, New York and Dean of Academic Affairs at the San Francisco Art Institute. Enwezor has been described as “one of the most influential and controversial curators on the international art scene” in The New York Times.
